Chartered engineer in Italy since 2003, based in the southern city Foggia. Enrolled at the local Guild of Engineers (Ordine degli Ingegneri) as n.2319. Relocated to the UK in late 2006 and back to Italy in mid 2011. My PhD thesis (Materials Science at The University of Manchester, project founded by Keeping the Nuclear Option Consortium and Nexia Solutions) tried to model and simulate the fracture toughness decrement in austenitic stainless steels, as caused by neutron irradiation hardening and damage. It will be defended in late 2012. One publication is under review at an important international journal and two more are in preparation. My MSc dissertation (Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors at The University of Birmingham, UK) was focussed on the fracture toughness properties of thin tubular specimens made of 316L austenitic stainless steel. In the past I spent some time in modeling and implementing urban traffic networks for evacuation. It started from the dissertation for my Laurea in Ingegneria Nucleare (five years course + dissertation in nuclear engineering at Universita' di Pisa). I analyzed traffic models from literature and invented one algorithm to reduce every network to a binary tree without closed loops. Download the dissertation slides (italian, .ppt format) presented in March 2003. In 2006 I won a 20k euros investment to start up a business in Foggia but turned it down in order to pursue a career abroad. The project was revamped in late 2011 for professional use and one application to the urban network of Foggia, Italy. Back in 2001, I designed a raw prototype of a small wind turbine (3 blades, < 20 kW) for isolated farms and grid connection. It was an economic and structural project meant to reach the market. Some preliminary descriptive notes (italian, .pdf format) are available for download. The project was upgraded and completed in 2003 but failed to reach the market.
I was a member of the Commissione Innovazione e Ricerca (Innovation and Research Committee) at the local Ordine degli Ingegneri (Guild of Engineers) in Foggia. Some public contribution to my community are collected in ingegneria , (italian, .zip format). |
